5 Dangers of Artificial Sweeteners

 

Many health-conscious individuals are aware that consuming too much sugar is not good for the body, and therefore choose to consume artificial sugars or sweeteners to satisfy their sweet tooth instead. However, the truth is that artificial sugar conceals many dangers.

 

1. Chemical Residues and Cancer

 

Aspartame is composed of three types of chemicals: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. If the body consumes a large amount of these chemicals, they cannot be completely eliminated from the body, potentially leading to tissue damage and DNA damage. In the worst case, it can even develop into abnormal cell growth and cancer.

 

2. Indirect Causes of Obesity and Diabetes

 

Many people choose to avoid sugar and opt for artificial sweeteners to prevent obesity and diabetes. However, artificial sweeteners like aspartame can ironically become the root cause of these two diseases. Aspartame disrupts the body's hormone production and leads to an increased craving for sugar, causing the body to consume even more sugar than before.

 

3. It's a Dangerous Substance

 

Even though it is permitted for consumption, studies have shown that some animals have suffered from severe symptoms such as seizures and even death after being tested with artificial sweeteners.

 

4. Bloated and upset stomach

 

When aspartame is used as a sugar substitute that is not absorbed into the body, it accumulates in the large intestine where bacteria can break it down, but this also produces gas which can cause symptoms such as bloating, upset stomach and more frequent bowel movements.

 

5. Harmful to the brain

 

Aspartic acid, which is one of the components of aspartame, can enter brain cells and when there is a high level of calcium in the brain, it can be harmful to the brain. Brain cells may become abnormal, leading to diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer's, as well as nerve damage and abnormal functioning of the glands.

 

However, this does not mean that we cannot consume aspartame at all. We can still consume it in moderate amounts, or if we want to reduce our sugar intake, it is better to reduce our sweet consumption altogether.
