10 Thai fruits contain anti-cancer substances

Department of Health have researched 10 Thai fruits with high anti-cancer substances. Mrs. Nattaya Jongchaithet, Medical Scientist, Division of Nutrition, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, said that the research of “Knowledge on the amount of antioxidants in fruits for health promotion (vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene) in fruits”, which is studied in 83 types of fruit, was found that the top 10 fruits with high beta-carotene are:

 

  • Ripe Nam Dok Mai Mango
  • Queen tomato
  • Ripe papaya
  • Banana
  • Mango
  • Sweet maprang
  • Yellow cantaloupe
  • Mayong chid
  • Ripe green mango
  • Phuket Pineapple

All these fruits are yellow.

 

The fruits that do not contain beta-carotene are dragon fruit, tamarind, mangosteen, lychee, and pear.

Top 10 sections of fruits with high vitamin C are pear, guava, seedless guava, emblica, tamarind, rambutan, persimmon, strawberry, ripe papaya, white pomelo, cucumber, and apple jujube.

This study found the top 10 fruits with high vitamin E. They are jackfruit, tamarind, green mango, queen tomato, ripe green mango, ripe Nam Dok Mai Mango, mango, pink dragon fruit, strawberries, and bananas.

Fruits with less beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E are pears, grapes, and apples. However, queen tomato is a fruit that has high beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E.

The beta-carotene, vitamin C and E are a group of substances that can eliminate free radicals, which cause the inflammation in the body, tissue destruction, cataracts in the elderly, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
