What Causes Hemorrhoids in Pregnant People?

Why do pregnant people often suffer from hemorrhoids?

Pregnancy can lead to a variety of symptoms such as bleeding, bloody diarrhea, fecal matter, fresh blood, polyps, anus, and hemorrhoids. This is caused by the position of the growing fetus in the womb, which can pressure the blood vessels in the abdomen and impede the normal flow of blood.

When a person ages, the blood doesn't flow as easily through their veins, which can cause hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins around the rectum that can cause the area to become more prominent. Varicose veins are large, swollen veins in the legs that can result from the veins not flowing as easily.

After a woman has given birth, the postpartum hemorrhage typically subsides, however, there may be residual effects such as the presence of polyps which are generally harmless and do not present any further issues if there are no other accompanying symptoms.
