Recommendations for using eye drops
How to use eye drops
Eye drops should be used strictly according to a doctor's instructions.
In the case of using eye drops 6 times a day (or every 2-3 hours), they may be used according to your daily routine, as in the following examples:
- After waking up, after breakfast, after lunch, during snack time or in the afternoon, after dinner, before bed.
- If you forget to use eye drops, use them with the next dose without doubling up, or as prescribed by a doctor.
- Dry eye symptoms will improve when the patient uses eye drops regularly as prescribed by a doctor, but the condition will worsen if the patient reduces the amount of medication on their own or stops treatment without consulting a doctor. Therefore, it is important for patients to use eye drops continuously according to the doctor's recommendations.
How to use eye drops:
- Wash your hands and use soap before using eye drops.
- Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid with the hand that is not dominant, creating a pocket under the eye.
- With the dominant hand, hold the bottle of eye drops and drop one drop into the pocket under the eye.
*Be careful not to let the tip of the eye drop bottle touch the eye or eyelid to prevent contamination.
- For regular eye drops, close your eyes for about 2 minutes. For drops used to treat glaucoma, keep your eyes closed for 5 minutes to allow the medication to take effect. Artificial tears do not require eye closure, and blinking is allowed.
- When using more than one type of eye drop, wait at least 5 minutes between drops.
Some eye drops may cause side effects such as eye irritation, eye discharge, redness, eye pain, or itching. If symptoms persist, see a doctor immediately.
