Diseases to be aware of before pregnancy

Sometimes, women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant may have had previous illnesses or diseases. These illnesses can be very dangerous to pregnancy because the side effects can impact both the mother and the developing fetus. The important and potentially dangerous diseases to be aware of include:

  • High blood pressure
  • Anemia
  • Tuberculosis
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Asthma
  • German measles

These aforementioned diseases can cause complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period. These complications may have adverse effects on the developing fetus.
